Do you still write and send letters?

I went back to my hometown recently and one day, I spent half a day clearing out the store room to make space for newer stuff. Out of nowhere appears a bag full of letters. These letters are my letters and are sent to me by my primary and secondary school friends.

You see, I study in Singapore primary school. During the year end school holiday, I usually go back to Sabah because the holiday is about one and a half month. During those times, some of my friends in Singapore sent me xmas greeting cards and usually, letter is inserted for me to read. I am reading one of the letter sent by my good friend, Eddie and that letter alone brings a lot of memories about my primary school friend. I did not keep in touch with most of them and I wonder what happen to some of them now. In fact, Eddie Yuan, if you are reading this, reply to me ASAP.

After my secondary school ended in 1994, I went back to Sabah to study for my diploma. In those years, phone call is too expensive and Internet is not yet commercialised. Besides, one of them went to Seattle and another is in Canada. Calling them is ridiculous due to extremely high phone call charges then. The only way to keep in touch is via letters.

I am reading one of the letter by Mr. Yeoh PJ and I am laughing loud as I goes on. The conversation topics are usually about movies, life in college, girls in college and everything that sucks. Most of the times, the letter ends a question on what is going on with the rest of our friends. Yeah! Those are the days before Internet. There is no way to know what is going on with each other life until we received letter from them. In fact, I am very excited whenever I received a letter. Same goes for my friend. That is why whoever is late to reply a letter, that person is usually will be greeted with colourful words in the first paragraph. Hahaha.

How times changed. Nowadays, I do not write letters anymore. Anything is via email or msn chat. Some of them like Mr. Yeoh PJ is online most of the time and we just chat over in msn. One thing is that I do not keep a record of our conversation in msn. Unlike letters, it will forever be there and one a while, it makes a good read when there is nothing to do.
