Melaka 1

Wakes up damn early today at 5.30am. Gotta have a bus to catch at 7am. Sleep throughout the journey. Reach Malacca at 9am. Last visited this historic city in 1989. Damn long time ago. Took a bus to the Seri Costa hotel located at Mahkota Plaza. 50cents for non air con bus. Did not take a taxi since I read from the net that those drivers are charging RM15..Crazy.

Reach hotel at 9.30 am and wait for my dad to arrive from Ipoh. After check in, went to St Paul Church at the top of the hill and took pictures. Go downhill and visit the Studhuys. You know, the red colour building that was built by the Dutch. The history museum is located there and went in FOC since we are with the Society Photographer of Malaysia. It is interesting to look at the antiques inside the musuem. The statue of Admiral Cheng Ho is also located in there. Noon already. Went to eat chicken rice ball.

Walk thru Jonker Street and visited a temple and a mosque. Took some photos in there. All religious place there is like 200 years old..Interesting. Anyway, it is a hot day and later went to eat chendol. Cool stuff. After that, go back hotel.

  • Really cool post, do you know what those buildings are made out of?

Near where I live there is "Castell Coch" (The Red Castle). It is made of red sandstone and isn't as red as the buildings you took photos of.
Is that some sort of local stone?

  • I understand that he building used to be white. A few years later, it is painted red. Of course, this is done about 200 years ago.

I am not sure what stone is used. Have to check history for it.
